LION BITES began as a Penn State student’s documentation of food adventures.  Adventures in the kitchen, adventures at restaurants, adventures anywhere food might take you.

I’m Penn State Alum with a love for my school and good food. Sometime in the middle of my college career on a day where I probably liked to think I had time on my hands, came an idea to share my cooking creations with the world. Hence, the beginning of LION BITES.

Over the past year or so, LION BITES has emerged into a blog of mostly simple homemade or semi-homemade recipes and restaurant reviews.  What began as a girl on a college budget and schedule trying to feed herself “good” meals once a week has morphed into a mish mash of recipes to include old favorites, reinventions, and simple ideas. The blog has followed me from life of a college junior, through attempts to cook while living in a dorm as an intern, and now finally into moving away to the D.C. Metro area.

As a restaurant manager who works 50-60 hours per week on average, typically not getting home in time for dinner and mostly trying to survive on daily meals at my restaurant, and someone whose local grocery stores have gone from Walmart & Giant to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, there have definitely been adjustments made to my food lifestyle!  For one, I’m probably eating healthier — more organic, less processed and more “real” foods, however, I’m still crunched for time, ready for semi-homemade meals that will fill me up & trying to stay on a thrifty budget.

I love food & trying to cook new things.  My earliest memory in cooking is sitting on my Grandma’s counter making homemade biscuits with her. It’s probably what has led me here to begin with, the beginning of my career in the food industry.  I’m not a chef by any means, but for me cooking is a way to relieve stress & be creative. For now, Lion Bites is a place where I share my joys, and my struggles of cooking with time constraints, occasional reviews of restaurant food worth eating (or not) and more simply, a place to share ideas for good food, fast.
